Mega Millions April 2025 Update!
Mega Millions® is entering an exciting new chapter and Lotto.com™ is here to ensure a smooth transition for all of its customers. Mega Millions launched in 1996 as The Big Game, and over the years the game has changed to continuously bring excitement to lottery enthusiasts around the nation. For the first 21 years of the game’s history, tickets cost $1 and the game saw jackpots grow to almost half a billion dollars.
In 2017, Mega Millions underwent the biggest change in the game’s history, doubling the price of a ticket from $1 to $2. With this change came the first time a million dollar prize was offered for non-jackpot winners. The increase in price also saw the prize pool grow, with the jackpot eventually reaching over $1 billion several times since the price change.
April 2025 will mark a new era of Mega Millions when the price of the ticket will increase again from $2 to $5. Like the last time the game changed, it’s expected that jackpots will soar to heights never seen before. Jackpots will now start at $50 million and grow from there. We can anticipate the first $3 billion jackpot in lottery history at some point!
With the change Mega Millions players will now have Megaplier added to each line they purchase. Megaplier® is a randomly assigned multiplier that increases all non-jackpot prizes. Megaplier options are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 10x, meaning you could win $10 million by matching all the numbers without the Mega Ball! All prize tiers have been increased for Mega Millions. Gone are the days of break even prizes, the minimum you can win is now $10!
There will also be changes to the game that give you improved odds at the jackpot! The odds of winning the grand prize have decreased from 1 in 302.6 million to 1 and 292.2 million. This comes from reducing the number of available Mega Balls from 25 to 24.
