MegaMillions draws take place twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday evening at 11pm EST. Each of the draws take place at the studios in Atlanta, Georgia and are aired on various television channels across America.
On special occasions the draw for the Megamillions has taken place elsewhere; for example on 6th March 2007, for the record breaking Megamillions jackpot draw, Yolanda Vega celled the winning numbers in Times Square, New York.
Two draw machines are used for the Megamillions lottery – the first hold the 56 main balls (white) and the second holds the 46 Mega Balls (Gold). The first draw machine will produce the five main white balls and the second machine produces the one gold Mega Ball.
Megamillions Draw Information
Megamillions is an American multi-state lottery that was launched in May 2002 as a replacement to the Big Game. The game offers players nine chances to win and the Megamillions game matrix is 5/56 and 1/46 – five main numbers and one Mega Ball.
Eight of the nine prize tiers in the Megamillions game offer guaranteed pay-outs despite the number of winners as per below:

The jackpot of the MegaMillions lottery is determined by ticket sales and any rollover jackpot funds and can be won by matching the five main balls and one Mega Ball drawn.
Jackpot winners in the Mega Millions can choose one of two ways of receiving their money. One is a by opting to receive a cash lump sum that can be lower than the advertised jackpot and is subject to tax laws. The second way players can receive their winnings is to choose the annuity jackpot. By selecting this option the lottery will invest the full cash amount before any taxes are deducted. This Mega Millions annuity jackpot is then paid out to the winner in 26 equal payments over 25 years. The winner will receive the first payment as an immediate cash payment when they make the Mega Millions jackpot claim.
Megaplier
Megamillions players in all bar one (California) of the participating states/jurisdictions also have the option of paying a little extra to play the Megaplier. The Megaplier number is drawn by a random number generator by the Texas Lottery and can increase any winnings, with the exception of the jackpot by multiples of 2, 3 or 4.
