About the German Lotto Draw
The German Lotto, known as the Lotto 6 aus 49 has been available to play since 1974. It is managed and run by the Deutscher Lotto- und Totoblock (DLTB) which represents 16 individual lotteries in a partnership that is called Lotteriegesellschaften. Each independent lottery is staged in various regions in the county and they all run differently from each other. However, they take it in turns to run the DLTB which involves taking over presidency for a period of three years at a time.
In the German Lotto there are a total of eight numbers drawn. The first six to be selected are the main numbers which are drawn from a pool of 1 - 49 and then the Bonus Ball (ZZ) is drawn from the remaining 43 numbers. The ZZ ball, acts just like a Bonus Ball number that can be found in other world lotteries and mean players can win extra prizes, if they match either 3, 4 or 5 of the main draw numbers.
In addition to that, in a separate machine the Super Number (SZ) is drawn from a pool of 0 9. This Super Number (SZ) needs to be matched correctly along with the six main draw numbers to be able to win the jackpot. However, you dont select the SZ number; it is the last digit to be printed out on your ticket for both of the games Spiel 77 and Super 6.
In the German Lotto there are a total of eight different prize divisions available to win in every draw including the jackpot and to start winning a prize you have to match three of the main drawn numbers. The odds of winning any of the eight prizes in the German Lotto are:
| Match | Percentage of Prize Pool | Odds of Winning |
|---|---|---|
| Match 6 and Super Ball (SZ) | 10% | 1 in 139,838,160 |
| Match 6 | 8% | 1 in 15,537,573 |
| Match 5 and Bonus Ball (ZZ) | 5% | 1 in 2,330,636 |
| Match 5 | 13% | 1 in 55,491 |
| Match 4 and Bonus Ball (ZZ) | 2% | 1 in 22,197 |
| Match 4 | 10% | 1 in 1083 |
| Match 3 and Bonus Ball (ZZ) | 8% | 1 in 812 |
| Match 3 | 44% | 1 in 61 |
If you win a prize in the German Lotto then all winnings are paid out in tax-free cash lump sums.
